What Is Sugaring?
Sugaring is a natural hair removal method made from sugar, lemon juice, and water. The paste is applied to the skin and removed to lift the hair from the root, helping to leave the skin smooth, fresh, and comfortable.
Many clients choose sugaring because it feels gentler than traditional waxing and is well suited to those who prefer a more natural approach to hair removal. It is ideal for maintaining smooth skin while helping to reduce ongoing irritation.
Why Choose Sugaring?
Natural Ingredients
Sugaring paste is made from simple ingredients without unnecessary additives, making it a popular option for clients who prefer a cleaner approach to hair removal.
Gentler on the Skin
Many clients find sugaring less irritating than traditional waxing, especially when maintaining regular appointments.
Smooth, Long-Lasting Results
Because hair is removed from the root, skin feels smoother for longer compared with shaving.
Ideal for Sensitive Areas
Sugaring is especially popular for intimate and delicate areas, including Brazilian sugaring, where comfort and skin care matter most.
Brazilian Sugaring
For Brazilian sugaring, technique matters. A strip method may be used in more sensitive areas to reduce pulling and make the treatment more comfortable. While sugaring can feel different to clients who are new to it, many love the smooth finish and gentler feel on the skin.
Preparing for Your Sugaring Appointment
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours before your appointment.
- Gently exfoliate beforehand to help remove dead skin build-up.
- Do not apply oils, lotions, or moisturisers on the day of treatment.
- Hair should be approximately 6–12 mm long for best results.
- If you usually shave, allow around 2 weeks of regrowth before your first sugaring appointment.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol for several hours beforehand if your skin is easily sensitised.
Aftercare
Proper aftercare helps keep the skin calm, comfortable, and clear after sugaring.
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.
- Keep the area clean and avoid harsh or heavily fragranced products.
- Apply a soothing, fragrance-free moisturiser or aloe vera gel if needed.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for 24–48 hours.
- After 48 hours, gently exfoliate to help prevent ingrown hairs.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to reduce friction on freshly sugared skin.
- Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, and the ocean for 24–48 hours.
When Extra Care Is Needed
Sugaring may not be suitable for everyone. Extra care is recommended if you have sensitive, sunburnt, broken, or irritated skin, or if you have recently had skin treatments such as chemical peels or laser procedures.
You should also seek professional advice before treatment if you use topical retinoids, blood thinners, strong exfoliating acids, or if you have conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, diabetes, or varicose veins.
Additional Notes
- Skin may feel more sensitive during menstruation.
- Pregnancy, oral contraceptives, and hormone replacement therapy may increase skin sensitivity.
- A patch test may be recommended in some cases.
- If your skin is visibly red or irritated, it is best to wait before treatment.
- Active exfoliants such as salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acids, and enzyme products should be avoided before and after treatment as advised.
